Evanescent. Restrained. Ethereal. These are some of the words used to
describe the architecture of Kengo Kuma, one of the most heralded of a new
generation of Japanese architects. A recent article in Architecture writes
of Kuma that "he strives to give his buildings the qualities of a rainbow,
composed of shimmering particles, more illusion than object, that change
as you look at them." Increasingly the focus of international renown,
Kuma's work is characterized by a delicate simplicity and minimalism,
incorporating a wide range of ephemeral transparencies. Their ineffable
vibrancy is achieved largely by the extensive and skillful use of screens:
metal, wooden, bamboo, and even stone louvers or slates, as well as paper,
plastic, and glass surfaces or membranes. His use of new, sophisticated,
and efficient technologies, his sensitivity to site, and his attention to
the ecological and prevailing social context of his work are all explored
in Kengo Kuma: Selected Works, the first full-length monograph on the work
of this enormous talent. Included are all of Kuma's most recent projects,
including the Museum of Ando Hiroshige, the Stone Museum, the Horai Onsen
Bath House in Atami, Louis Vuitton Tokyo Headquarters, and the Nagasaki
Prefectural Museum.

Omkring 1800 var Århus en lille, fortættet handels- og håndværksby
beboet af godt 4.000 indbyggere og med torvene i byens midte som det
økonomiske og sociale midtpunkt. Ved århundredets slutning var
indbyggertallet vokset til flere end 50.000, byen havde spredt sig ud over
de middelalderlige grænser, og dele af de omkringliggende sognekommuner og
landsbyer var blevet indlemmet i købstadskommunen. Nye kvarterer var
opstået med særlige beboer- og erhvervssammensætninger, og selv om der
stadig var mange små håndværksforetagender, lå tyngden i byens erhvervsliv
nu hos storhandelen og industrien. Byens udvikling afspejlede dermed
forandringen af købstæderne landet over.

CPH Billeder har journalist Marcus Aggersbjerg på titelbladet, men er
i virkeligheden først og fremmest skrevet af Københavnerne selv. I ord og
(primært) billeder tegner de hver især deres eget personlige portræt af
netop deres hjørne af København. Øjebliksbillederne er så forskellige som
en baggård på Nrd. Fasanvej, havnebadet på Islands Brygge, sommerlivet i
Kongens Have, prøverummet hos Nørgaard på Strøget, vintersol på
Assistentens Kirkegård, metroen, Universitetsbiblioteket og masser af
andre smukke, grimme, anderledes, traditionelle eller specielle steder og
øjeblikke i den Københavnske hverdag. Alle billeder er holdt i sort/hvid
og det giver bogen et flot og kunstnerisk layout som gør det til en
fornøjelse at gå på opdagelse, også for dem som ikke umiddelbart nærer den
store sympati eller interesse for hovedstaden (men pas på – du kan næsten
ikke undgå at komme til at holde af byen og alle dens særheder!) Udover
Københavnernes mange billeder og tekster indeholder bogen også 14
interviews med folk som på den ene eller den anden måde har en særlig
tilknytning til eller funktion i byen.

Komikeren Sebastian Dorset fortæller med sædvanligt bid om København
på godt og ondt, set fra en tilflytters synspunkt. Natkirkepræst Signe
Malene Bjerg fortæller om Københavnernes tro og åndelighed. Designer Mads
Nørgaard tager naturligvis Københavnernes forhold til mode under
behandling og Politikeren Kamal Qureshi glædes over byens kulturelle
mangfoldighed. Derudover er der interviews med Musiker og sangskriver
Tobias Trier, Restaurantanmelder Søren Frank, Manuskriptforfatter Mette
Heeno, Fotografelev Johan Rosenmunthe, Skoleinspektør Lige Engholm,
Arkitekt Lars Gemzøe, Historiefortæller Carsten Islington, Portrætfotograf
Varvara Hasselbalch, Forlagsredaktør Marianne Thorhauge og Journalist
henrik List. Der er således tale om en broget skare af mennesker, men med
det til fælles at de alle har noget på hjerte i forbindelse med København,
at de har en holdning og i manges tilfælde også en mission. Men er det
ikke også sådan København er når den er bedst? En samling af folk som nok
er meget forskellige, men sjældent ligeglade med det samfund og den by de
befinder sig i?

Denne bog beskæftiger sig med nogle danske havnes udvikling, og den
viser at der er store kulturarvsværdier og en god del af den danske
søfarts historie at finde i og omkring disse havne. De fem havne som bogen
omhandler er Ærøskøbing havn, Marstal havn, Rudkøbing havn, Svendborg havn
og Faaborg havn. Målet med at undersøge dem er at kaste lys over de
enkelte havnes udvikling og efterfølgende at vurdere, om der er regionale
udviklingstræk, som binder havnene sammen i et mønster. "Et andet mål er
at udpege de oversete kulturmiljøer, som findes på havnene, samt i disse
tider med store forandringer at anbefale bevaring af kulturhistorisk
værdifulde dele af disse miljøer i overensstemmelse med den nye
museumslovs kapitel 8"(fra Indledning). De fem havne ligger i det område,
som kaldes Sydfyn og Øerne. Området er fra naturens side nærmest bestemt
til søfart, for havet er det stærkeste indslag i Sydfyns natur. "Øhavet
har bundet folk sammen og ikke adskilt dem. [...] Sådan var det engang, og
den tid er ikke så langt borte, da den meste transport foregik ad
søvejen."

Performative Architecture discusses an emerging approach to
architecture in which building performance is a guiding design principle.
This architecture places broadly defined performance above or on par with
form making; it utilizes digital technologies of quantitative and
qualitative performance-based simulation to offer a comprehensive new
approach to the design of the built environment. This book brings together
some of the leading individuals from different realms - architects,
engineers, theoreticians, technologists - with the aim of providing
informed views of what is meant by performances in architecture and of
architecture. A driving force behind this assemblage was the desire to
investigate the impact of the recent surge in computational instrument
development and use in architectural practice and "high performance"
buildings. The book illustrates that buildings embodying the notion of
"integration" or "high performance" concepts are developed through highly
interactive relations between architects and engineers. This integration
is primary influenced by the "process" of collaboration.

This process has been imbued by advancements in computational
technology that predominately narrowed the gap between the design actors -
including architects and engineers. It made it easier for engineers to be
engaged in all aspects of the design activities and be able to investigate
and clarify questions by conducting fast, robust analysis. This allowed
new forms of architecture to be possible. The chapters of this book
provide a diverse set of ideas as to how building performance is relevant
today and how it might be relevant tomorrow for architectural and
engineering design practices. The projects discussed provide snapshots of
different approaches, grounded in actual practices already taking place.

Modtageren af årets Møbelpris 2005 Hans Thyge, indehaver af tegnestuen
RAUNKJÆRKJÆRGAARDDESIGNOFFICE, har lavet en bog om sit favoritobjekt,
stolen. Han er formodentlig den designer i Danmark, der p.t. arbejder mest
intenst med stolen som designobjekt. Han har tegnet mere end 50 stole i
sin karriere, og det er der nu kommet en spændende billedmæssig fortælling
ud af. Chairs on the run eksperimenterer med måden at formidle design på
og afspejler Hans Thyges holdning: At smukt og funktionelt design i sig
selv ikke har nogen værdi. Design skal have et indhold og en sanselighed,
der flytter vores bevidsthed. Hans Thyge slipper så at sige stolene ud af
deres objekt univers og lader dem indtræde som personer i et filmisk
univers bestående af sensuelle naturscenerier, crime scenes og
nattevandringer på havnen. Som læser og beskuer bliver vi ført bag om den
polerede og minimalistiske designfacade og lokket til at fortsætte de
associationer og tanker, designeren har leget med, da han har skabt sine

Gennem fem år var serien om århusianske gader, stræder og rekreative
områder et ugentligt indslag i JP Århus. Undervejs skortede det ikke på
læseropfordringer til at udgive ”Kend din by” i bogform. Nu realiseres
projektet gennem et samarbejde mellem Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten og
Østjysk Hjemstavnsforening – med sidstnævnte som udgiver. Forfatteren,
journalist Mogens Weinreich, har udvalgt 60 af de mere end 200 gader, som
serien i JP Århus omfattede. Resultatet er blevet en indbundet bog på 250
sider, hvis lokalhistoriske indhold ledsages af forfatterens personlige
iagttagelser og synspunkter
