Assistant Professorship and Associate Professorship in Sustainability

Aarhus School of Architecture wants to strengthen sustainability in architecture. We are looking for applicants with strong skills in architecture and sustainability as well as relevant experience from research and development work. We expect you to be enthusiastic about the current challenges and opportunities that sustainability provides for architecture, and we expect you to have a holistic understanding of how technological, resource-related, social and spatial parameters can strengthen architectural sustainability. We expect you to help develop the area for the benefit of architectural practice, research and teaching.

An associate professorship is a permanent position with research and/or artistic development work as principal responsibilities. Publication, scientific dissemination and teaching are requirements. The position may also involve project management and administrative work as specifically agreed.

An assistant professorship is a three-year training position with research and teaching as principal responsibilities. The position may also, to a limited extent, include administrative work or cross-institutional and external cooperation. Aarhus School of Architecture ensures that the assistant professor receives supervision and opportunities for educational skills development.

The positions are open from 1 August 2017. Remuneration will be in accordance with the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC-fællesoverenskomsten).

Three new positions in the research lab Emerging Architectures

Aarhus School of Architecture announces three positions associated with the research lab Emerging Architectures and the related teaching programme Sustainability.

The announced positions are:

We are looking for applicants with strong professional skills within the focus areas of the positions who can help set the agenda for developing a sustainable architecture and rethinking architecture as a practice with a major impact on our surroundings and as a profession which is undergoing changes. You must want to be part of a recently established research and teaching environment we are currently building.

The research activities of the positions are intended to help strengthen the research lab’s focus on the growing social and environmental challenges for the production of architecture and its focus on rethinking the competences, mindset and methods of the architectural profession in order to address these challenges. The teaching activities of the positions will be affiliated with the teaching programme Sustainability, which includes teaching at bachelor and master level. Read more about the teaching programme.

Aarhus School of Architecture invites all who have the relevant qualifications to apply but will give preference to applications that are based on Research-by-Design, which is a prioritised focus area of the school.

Requirements for applicants and applications

The position as associate professor requires qualifications in the subject area of the advertisement on the level of a satisfactorily completed period of employment as assistant professor. Such qualifications may have been obtained through documented research at international level or through other further development or innovation of the subject area, such as, for instance, through original artistic development work at a high international level, or based on a considerable career in architecture, design or preservation at a high level.

Employment as assistant professor requires research skills at PhD level or similar qualifications within the relevant subject area.
