When reflecting upon the role of the architect, it’s hard not to consider one’s own stance. I chose the sustainability course because I’m fairly sure that I want to work with architecture, but 100% sure that I want to work with sustainability.
This attitude has unconsciously followed me through the reasoning behind this project; it is not about the role of the architect, but rather the entity in which the architect plays one role out of many. Architects can survey, connect and solute, but we cannot immerse into everything. The field of architecture and sustainability is simply too extensive.
On the other hand, architects have the skill set to create the space in which the collaboration and overview is created; the meeting between experts, creatives, decision-makers and the civic society. And this is how I believe we create the trust and durable solutions that are needed for the sustainable development.
Therefore, I’ve been designing a meeting place between all different layers of the city with a focus on the sharing of knowledge.
