Jury For Photo of The Year 2019

The members of the Photo of the Year 2019 jury are:

HÉLÈNE BINET (CH/F) has worked with and for all the great architects (Caruso St John, David Chipperfield, Daniel Libeskind, Peter Zumthor), has published books and is represented in major museums. She is an ardent supporter of analogue photography and therefore works exclusively with photographic film. For more than 25 years she has followed the work of contemporary architects, often from start to finish. Most recently, she has focused her attention on landscape photography, translating her visions from architectural photography to the landscape. Favourite Camera: Hélène Binet works exclusively with photographic film.

JENS MARKUS LINDHE (DK) is both a photographer and an architect, and has for many years worked as architectural photographer for architectural practices in Denmark. He has arranged countless exhibitions and written many books. Like Iwan Baan, he focuses on the way we use architecture. His background in both photography and architecture means he has special competencies that make him an eminent communicator of architecture. Favourite camera: In the old days, Hasselblad and Leica. Now, digital Leica M, CL and SL. And Leica Q for street pictures.

METTE SANDBYE (DK) PhD, professor and head of department of The Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, University of Copenhagen. She is currently doing research into the relationship between amateur photography and collective history since the 1960s. She is the only member of the jury who is not a trained photographer or spends her life taking photos. On the other hand, her knowledge of photography, its history and development is greater than most photographers in terms of the development, influence and trends of photography. ‘She has been a critic for more than 20 years, has published several books and participated in the jury for e.g. The Hasselblad Award, The Photographic Book Award of the Ministry of Culture, Nordic Dummy Award, and the committee for pictorial arts of The Danish Arts Council. TORBEN NIELSEN (DK) architect, Rector at Aarhus School of Architecture since 2010, has a lifelong passion for architectural photography and has participated as judge in several competitions. Favourite camera: everything from pinhole to digital.
