Studio 1A: Urban Design|Landscape Architecture (UD|LA) is characterised by a strong focus on the design of urban and landscape space as well as the architecture of the city. All work in the studio is based on the fact that urbanization in the 21st century is going on with unprecedented speed and we are now in the middle of a climate- and biodiversity crisis.
In this context, UD|LA insists on a collective call to action through a high degree of exploration and experimentation with the relationship between natural and cultural processes in the city; from the aesthetic, sensuous and material conditions of shifting sites and their atmospheres as they are experienced through bodily engagement to holistic visions for territories in transition.
All projects on UD|LA are carried out in an urban context where ‘urban’ is seen in the broader discussion about what constitutes the city of the Anthropocene.
Through state-of-the-art research UD|LA introduces students to the three independent, but obviously related, academic and professional fields of landscape architecture, urban design and urban- and landscape planning. The studio aims to develop students’ design skills in these three fields with the goal to provide deep knowledge of their theoretical and practical natures.
