new architects receive prizes and awards
\n<\/strong><\/h1>\nFriday 1 February, 41 newly qualified architects graduated from Aarhus School of Architecture. And four graduates received awards and prizes<\/h4>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/main><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>Pelle Juul Carlsen<\/strong> received both a VOLA Award and the 3XN\/3xG Prize for his graduation project Alternativ to Fredericias Kanalby,<\/em> based on the current development of the former industrial port of the city.<\/p>\nAccording to the award committee, the project demonstrates “in an excellent and highly relevant way how urban planning, architecture and landscape architecture can be merged. \u2026 The project demonstrates an insight into the diversity and post-industrial potential of urban areas and provides a sharp criticism of current practice \u2026 The award committee also recognises and appreciates the exceptionally many drawings and analyses that are part of the project.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the motivation, 3XN\/3xG stresses the way Pelle Juul Carlsen’s has based his project on the existing:<\/strong><\/p>\n\u201cPelle Juul Carlsen presents a convincing scenario that identifies values and reconsiders the potential of our historic port areas – instead of starting from scratch. The project thus not only challenges specific developments in Fredericia but developments everywhere in the world where the industry is moving out.<\/p>\n
It is commendable when architects take their role as critical ‘proofreaders’ of society seriously … Even more so when the criticism, as is the case here, is constructive and followed up by a compelling and natural alternative strategy.”<\/p>\n
The winner of the VOLA Award receives DKK 15,000. The winner of the 3XN\/3xG Prize receives a travel grant of DKK 10,000.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>
