Together with its supporting parties and Alternativet, the Government has reached an agreement on the 2020 State Budget. In the Budget, funds have been set aside for a so-called quality subsidy for the arts programmes at Aarhus School of Architecture, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, Design and Conservation and Design School Kolding.

According to the agreement, in the period from 2020 to 2023, DKK 15 million will be set aside annually as a subsidy intended to strengthen the quality of artistic research. Of the DKK 15 million, Aarhus School of Architecture will receive four million annually.

Rector Torben Nielsen is pleased with the new ‘quality subsidy’:

‘This is a remarkable recognition of the importance of the approach of the arts programmes to the architectural discipline and the contributions the programmes make to society in a future where we need to solve big and difficult tasks. We see it as a recognition of the fact that Denmark and the world around us need broad interdisciplinary artistic competencies characterised by holistic thinking’.

In the agreement on the new Budget the parties have also agreed to abolish the so-called ‘education ceiling’, which was introduced in 2016. This means that when the law has been adopted, it will again be possible to apply for admission to the Bachelor’s degree program of Aarhus School of Architecture, even if you have previously completed a bachelor’s degree from another educational institution.
