On Thursday, June 20th, Aarhus School of Architecture hosts a festive farewell reception for our retiring rector, Torben Nielsen. The event will also feature the opening of an exhibition and the launch of the photobook Still a Construction Site / Stadig byggeplads.
The exhibition showcases 23 black-and-white photographs by Torben Nielsen. The exhibited photographs are displayed in the library’s wooden structure and were taken during the two-year construction period of the new school at Exners Plads.
The photographs primarily depict craftsmen in action, situated among materials, structures, light, and shadows. These are snapshots of the raw, evolving environment that has since been built over. The exhibition is a tribute to the craftsmen who physically shape dreams through their work.
In the photobook, Still a Construction Site, more than 300 black-and-white photographs narrate the creation of the new architecture school and its early use. The title refers to the vision that the school will continue to change in the future; dynamic, raw, and rich in experiences, just like a construction site.
The event will take place on Thursday, June 20th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM in the school’s library, and everyone is welcome. The exhibition is open until September 1st during the library’s opening hours.
The Danish Building and Property Agency and A. Enggaard A/S support the photo exhibition by purchasing works.
The photobook Still a Construction Site / Stadig Byggeplads is supported by Dreyers Fond, Realdania, and Kuben Housing Foundation. The book is published by Arkitektskolens Folag and can be purchased at Architegn. Proceeds from sales will be donated in full to the school’s student associations.
