Newer industrial areas are in transformation. As you read this, what is equal to 30.000 family homes are vacant. Moreover, their use is changing. From industrial production and warehouses, we find stores for reuse, fitness-centers, socio-economic catering, football schools, karate clubhouse, co-working-spaces, education etc.
This project is concerned with planning strategies to support this current, but undetermined transformation of newer industrial areas. Their future can hold a multiple of scenarios on how they can obtain a new role in the contemporary city. This project will focus on scenarios including housing. Similar to a biopsy, the idea is that the investigation of the industrial areas can contribute to general questions on knowledge on the current transformations in the contemporary urban landscape and methods to interact with transformation in uncertain conditions.
