Soo Jung Ryu in her PhD project explores how seaweed can help soften the hard borders between sea and city while reducing our carbon footprint in the process.

Seaweed holds great potential: It can store huge amounts of carbon, and it can benefit the marine environment. In the project Urban Seascaping, PhD fellow Too Jung Ryu explores seaweed as a catalyst for transformations of shores adjacent to cities in the Anthropocene.

The research raises the question: How can cities by the sea in eastern Jutland integrate the sea and its lifeforms in a way that contributes to rethinking existing and new development of waterfront in light of sea rises?
