Jonas Munk Clausen2026-01-01 23:59:452026-05-06 09:47:59Ibrahim MahamaDr. Laura Martínez de Guereñu (ES) is an architect and tenured associate professor at IE University (Madrid), where she directs the area of History, Theory, and Critique. Her research has been supported by several competitive fellowships, including the Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers (Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung, hosted by the TU Munich, Germany, 2021-2023), the Lilly Reich Grant for Equality in Architecture (inaugural recipient, Fundació Mies van der Rohe, 2018), and the Leonardo Grant for Scientific Researchers and Cultural Creation (BBVA Foundation, 2015).
Her work focuses on recovering the voices and contributions of architects whose work has not received sufficient recognition, and on examining how their legacies are constructed in the absence of a unified archive. In this context, she edited the volume Who Designs Architecture? On Silenced and Superimposed Authorship (2021). Building on that line of research, Laura has examined creative collaborations based on shared responsibility, analyzing the specific contribution of each agent to the production of a common work, as is the case of the projects developed by Lilly Reich and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Her book Lilly Reich in Barcelona: The Materialization of a Neglected Authorship (Fundació Mies van der Rohe, 2025) is the result of more than a decade of research and brings together evidence from over fifty archives.
She holds a Master in Design Studies with Distinction from Harvard University (Rafael del Pino Excellence Scholarship; Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard Scholarship), a PhD from the University of Navarra, and a Diploma in Architecture with Award of Excellence from the same institution.
