Stig L. Andersson (DK) is a landscape architect and founder of the nature-based design studio SLA (1994). Before studying architecture, he explored nuclear physics, Japanese culture, and chemistry, graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in 1986. From 1986–1989, he lived in Japan on ministerial research funding, developing a lasting interest in relationships between substance, space, and change.
As SLA’s founding partner, Andersson has led the studio from a landscape practice into an international interdisciplinary organisation working across nature-based design, landscape architecture, and urban planning. His work combines a poetic and sensuous approach with deep knowledge of nature’s aesthetics and advanced biological and urban design.
He is professor at the University of Copenhagen and Beijing Forestry University, and recipient of numerous awards, including the C.F. Hansen Medal.
