The new school comprises office, teaching, research, and workshop facilities for around 600 students and 100 employees. The floor area of the building project is approx. 12,500 m2. The project was completed in the summer of 2021.
We wanted a robust and flexible building that can easily be adapted to future demands and needs. The school has the character of a workshop where students, teachers, and researchers have ample opportunity to experiment with and challenge tomorrow’s architecture.
The new architecture school is open to its surroundings and the design invites people in at the ground floor level. On the ground floor, workshops, Didaktektet, and the library are located along the facade facing Carl Blochs Gade, making the facilities visible and easily accessible to the public. The study and research-oriented laboratories and workshops are located in the more informal part of the building that faces Godsbanen (the city’s culture centre) and The Green Wedge: a public and recreational area that connects all of the new neighbourhood – from the city to Brabrand Lake.
The entire ground floor is open and inviting. The floors above contain studios, administrative offices, teaching and research areas – creating a less public zone for the school’s staff and students
