About the internship programme
The internship programme gives students a taste of what working as an architect is like.
The internship programme gives students a taste of what working as an architect is like.
The internship programme allows the school’s students to bring practical experience into their studies while getting a taste of what working as an architect is like.
The purpose of the internship is to introduce students to architectural practice over an extended period of time in a professionally relevant company. The aim is for interns to gain knowledge and experience and acquire competencies that are best learned in a professional context. Having a committed intern also allows the training place to bring in new inspiration to the company.
We want interns to experience that, as an architect, you can work in many different places – both within the profession and geographically. Internships can, therefore, take place in practices, municipalities, housing associations, with a developer, or elsewhere. The only requirement is that an architect who can supervise the student is affiliated with the training place.
Terms and conditions for the internship programme
To be approved as an internship practice, it is a prerequisite that a professionally relevant person is employed in the company who can provide the student with guidance and is responsible for this. Professionally relevant means that the person responsible for the internship has the professional skills and experience that can strengthen the student’s development and continuously ensure that the student has the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills set out in the internship agreement.
See additional information in the template for contracts between the student, the internship company and the Aarhus School of Architecture.
How long does an Internship last?
Internships have a duration of five months and take place during the students’ sixth semester. The training place and the planned content and period of the internship must be approved by the unit of study to which the student is assigned.
Meetings during the internship
Midway through the internship period, an online meeting is held between the internship coordinator, the intern and a supervisor from the study unit to which the student is affiliated. At the meeting, the internship is evaluated in relation to the described content. It is a prerequisite for the approval of the semester that a mid-term meeting has been held.
How many interns can we have?
Companies with fewer than 10 employees may enter into an agreement with one intern from Aarhus School of Architecture per semester.
Companies with more than 10 employees may also enter into an agreement with one additional intern per 50 employees. This means that companies with 10-50 employees may enter into up to two internship agreements with students from Aarhus School of Architecture per semester, companies with 51-100 employees may enter into up to three internship agreements, etc.
For companies with offices in different parts of the country, the limitation applies to the number of interns per branch and not to the total number of employees in the company. This means that a company with 8 employees in Aalborg and 50 employees in Copenhagen may enter into an agreement with one intern for the branch in Aalborg and an agreement with two interns for the branch in Copenhagen.
Regardless of the size of the company and the number of branches, a maximum of 5 internship agreements can be entered into per company per semester.
It is the company’s responsibility that the described limitations are observed for the sake of the students, who will be asked to find an alternative internship if the limitations are exceeded.
