Tectonic Redrawing
Stop by the School of Architecture’s cafeteria and experience a special exhibition of models made by the school’s first-year students.
The students have analyzed canonical single-family houses from the 20th century. The analysis of the houses’ structural systems has been translated into models with three material legs:
- Concrete structures have been translated into plaster
- Steel structures have been translated into welding wire
- Wooden structures have been translated into wooden strips
The models emphasize the tectonic aspects of the house, and demonstrate the connection between construction principles, material and form. The students show with the exercise’s three legs that it is possible to redraw the tectonics of the house rather than copy it.
