The project area of the landscape laboratory closest to the city is also the outdoor area of Aarhus School of Architecture – a former goods yard. The area is currently in a process of transformation and will, in a few years’ time, emerge as a new, dense urban district.

The area was made part of Aarhus Landscape Laboratory in 2020 in connection with the development of the new school of architecture. Today, it is at the centre of experiments into relocating and grafting nutrient-poor habitats and of experiment focusing on the reuse of local materials.

It is also the setting of full-scale (1:1) student-driven initiatives and projects, including the Front Yard project; a project that received funding from The Villum Foundation in 2023 and focuses on establishing a new outdoor area that can be used by the school’s students and by visitors to the area.
