Grænseløse byer (CITIES WITHOUT BORDERS)

Contemporary urban development challenges certain conventional distinctions concerning the traditional concept of the city. Individual cities are increasingly integrated into larger, coherent urban communities where it is difficult to draw clear distinctions between centre and periphery, ‘urban’ and ‘rural’. The individual’s relationship to the community and to society is undergoing a similar transformation.

This anthology addresses some of the new perspectives that this development suggests for urban and landscape architecture. What role can be assigned to the landscape as the distinction between ‘urban’ and ‘rural’ dissolves? How can the citizens be engaged in the planning of a society dominated by individual concerns? These and other relevant questions are addressed in the twelve articles that make up the anthology.

Contributions by researchers at the Aarhus School of Architecture, the German architect and city planner Thomas Siverts and the late French sociologist and urban theorist Francois Ascher.
