The exhibition is a documentation of a work in progress and an exploration of drawing climate (outside of the construction) and climate drawing (inside the construction).
From Fall 2023 to Fall 2024, associate professor Elizabeth Donovan and teaching assistant professor Helle Blom have been exploring weather and climate through more than 200 ink and cyanotype drawings. In every drawing, the process was as important as the result. They never knew exactly how a piece would turn out. A drizzle might delicately scatter ink across the page, while a sudden downpour could wash all of the ink off. Frost left crystalline patterns they could not predict, and the wind carried pigment in unexpected directions. This lack of control was central to the project—it mirrored the uncertainty and complexity of our relationship with the environment. Each drawing became a record of a specific moment and place, shaped by forces beyond our control.
