FEIFEI ZHOU AT OPEN24
Meet the architect, artist and researcher, Feifei Zhou feisgram, at OPEN24 - 20 september.
Through her work, Zhou explores spatial, cultural, and ecological impacts of the industrialised built and natural environment. Using narrative-based spatial analysis, she collaborates intensively with social and natural scientists to translate empirical observations and scientific research into visual representations that aim to both clarify intricate more-than-human relations and open new questions.

Project Annotation by Iaroslava Komissarova (komiss_arr): In the dynamic urban landscape of Japan, the impact of shifting demographics on urban planning is unmistakable, highlighting the need for a nuanced understanding and strategic intervention.
This thesis project delves into the role of adaptive reuse in addressing Japan’s surplus of vacant buildings, focusing on reimagining traditional merchant houses (machiya) in Kyoto. The chosen program aims to explore not only the architectural significance of abandoned machiya but also their potential to serve as a new typology of aging “in place.”
By repurposing these structures into a Cross-Generational Day Care Center, the project seeks to uncover the cultural and material layers that intricately bind them to the collective memory of urban communities.

Eve Fan`s exciting semester project sits on top of the Bispeengbuen in between the borders of Nørrebro and Frederiksbjerg, envisioning a dormitory for 13 students pursuing the creative arts. The transformation of this controversial flyover into a bustling student complex aims to address the division between the two municipalities.

Cecilie Foss` semester project was about the reinterpretation of existing architecture.
An extension to Stengård School was to be designed, which stood in respect of Vilhelm Lauritzen`s work from the 1940s.
The building was supposed to be a meeting place, both for the students during school hours, but also for the local population - a school cultural center, which functions as a meeting point across groups and generations.

IMANI JACQUELINE BROWN AT OPEN24
Imani Jacqueline Brown attends OPEN24. She is an artist, activist, and architectural researcher dedicated to making videos and installations, organizing public actions, writing polemics, and using counter-cartographic strategies to map the spatial logics that make geographies, unmake communities, and break Earth’s ecologies.

Ingrid-Marie Morsø`s semester project is called “The peoples marsh” and is an exploration of how we can use the saltwater marsh as a remedy for coastal protection of habitational areas against the extreme weather in the future. The project is located at Risskov beach, where Ingrid wishes to strenghten the natural envoirenment of Aarhus bay while still keeping the strong recreational value of the area 👏
aydaparnian & jalma.fio ´s project delves deeply into the concept of “framing” as well as exploring contrasts. The architectural project introduces two new buildings in the heart of Aarhus, Bispetorv, creating two distinct urban squares.
A vibrant museum square where paths cross, eyes meet, and conversations are shared. In contrast, a green oasis subtly turns its back to the noise, sheltering and giving space and intimacy to take a break. Similarly, one of the museum buildings‘ glass facades extends an open invitation to the public. In opposition, a monolithic building resembling a treasure box. 👏
The origin of juleceline `s project lies in a critical examination of suburban landscapes, particularly the need for densification and to foster affordable forms of communal living within the current neoliberal system.
As a response to the urgency of creating inclusive, community-centric spaces in suburbia, the project transforms and restores the former 1945 Maskinfabrik in Højbjerg, Aarhus into a mixed-use complex that integrates social housing with private apartments, offices and various public facilities, while prioritizing a sensitive approach to heritage preservation and sustainable affordability. 👏
The idea in xraylau `s project is that architecture should be a high-performing opportunity to create tangible positive outputs, not only socially but also scientifically. The project attempts to use architecture as a catalyst for cultivating oyster reefs, since oysters are highly efficient in filtering and purifying ocean water and can also perform as a flood defense barrier. 👏
