Übermorgen – AIV-Schinkel Competition

Learning from yesterday today, to make tomorrow better. Thinking onwards.

On the 200th anniversary of our founding, AIV Berlin-Brandenburg is introducing a new format for the
AIV Schinkel Competition: freedom to develop answers to the pressing problems of our time. Climate
Change, dwindling resources, societal changes and the transformation of mobility are just a few of the topics
which confront designers today. The competition brief will challenge participants to develop ideas, strategies
and feasible designs which deal with current challenges in creating a highly viable urban habitat. Solutions
displaying exemplary and conceptional quality as well as long-sighted, responsible planning will be premiered.
Participants may choose any location or locations in the Region Berlin/Brandenburg. Exemplary design
strategies and solutions should take priority over a site-specific focus. In order to develop adequate
responses to the complex and pressing problems confronting us today, designers need to take on new
responsibility and new roles in the planning and design process.

Holistic solutions can be generated by drawing on the synergy effects of cooperation between different design
disciplines, participative planning processes and input from other fields, like sociology, philosophy, medicine, AI, etc.

There will be a special prize for interdisciplinary projects with a focus on resource and energy-efficiency.
With a view to the day after tomorrow, through cooperation and empathy, fantasy and creativity, answers to
the challenges of our time can be found.
