The second field workshop for our DFF scientific research network will be conducted on April 29-30, in London, UK in collaboration with Webb Yates Engineers and Stone Masonry Company. We ask the common question: What is stone as a 21st century building material? Working with environmental and sustainability sciences to understand the potentials of working with massive stone, we will have visits to recent stone buildings and meetings with pertinent architects and fabricators. Topics included: advances in stone engineering, fabrication and analytical tools; an urban geology walk with specialist Ruth Siddall, life-cycle analysis of stone as a decarbonizing material, and non-extractive design practices such as designing for disassembly, repair and material reuse.
