The second field workshop for our DFF scientific research network will be conducted on April 30-May 1, in London, UK in collaboration with Webb Yates Engineers. We ask the common question: What is stone as a 21st century building material? Working with environmental and sustainability sciences to understand the potentials of working with massive stone, we will have visits to recent stone buildings and meetings with pertinent architects and fabricators. Presentations by the research network may include: advances in stone engineering, fabrication and analytical tools; the spatial capacity of stone for human and non-human species; life-cycle analysis of stone as a decarbonizing material, and non-extractive design practices such as designing for disassembly, repair and material reuse.
