- A journey through Alsatian architecture
A Journey through Alsatian Architecture – JTA 2026 will take place from September 1 to 14, 2026. The program offers a unique opportunity to explore Alsace’s rich and living architectural heritage, shaped by Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical influences.
Participants will visit beautiful towns and villages such as Ammerschwihr, Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, Colmar, and Strasbourg, as well as the Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle and the Écomusée d’Alsace. The program combines lectures on traditional construction techniques and post-war reconstructions with drawing and study sessions focusing on façades, timber structures, joinery, and stone carvings.
This experience allows participants to observe, measure, and sketch, while meeting local craftsmen—carpenters, stonemasons, and masons—who preserve centuries-old skills. The goal is to understand and feel Alsatian architecture in all its complexity, from the geometry of arches to the details of façades, in a region where tradition and local identity have endured through wars and foreign influences.
