The objective of the research is to unfold the potential of façades to be both responsive and performative towards various climatic conditions, in order to achieve a good indoor climate and contribute actively to the low energy profile of the building.
The research employs a methodology of research-by-design experiments to investigate the shape-changing surface abilities and material-embedded properties of multi-functional materials. The outcomes of these experiments are a series of proposals for alternative façade concepts that extend the possibilities of climate-adaptive building design through dynamic behaviour.
