FULL-DEGREE STUDENT ADMISSION
A two-year Master of Arts in Architecture in English.
A two-year Master of Arts in Architecture in English.
Aarhus School of Architecture is offering a two-year Master of Arts in Architecture taught in English. The programme is, in essence, the same as the one taught in Danish. The same programme regulations apply to both programmes.
The application deadline will be 1 February 2023 for the Master programme starting in September 2023.
The degree entitles you to membership of the Danish Architects’ Association upon successful completion of all requirements. This membership allows you to obtain employment as an architect in Scandinavia without further licensing elements. The programme is up for RIBA 2 revalidation in the spring 2023.
Please note: We do not require you to have had practical experience between your Bachelor’s degree and intended programme start.
Academic requirements
We require a Bachelor of Architecture or equivalent as the basic academic requirement. We do accept students with other qualifications than a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, which is one of the reasons you must deliver a portfolio together with your application. Our degree is basically an artistic degree, an aspect you should have in mind if you decide to apply for this programme.
Applicants who have graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from a Danish university/college institution can only obtain admission if the Bachelor Programme is a BA in Architecture from either the Aarhus School of Architecture or the Danish Royal Academy. No other Danish Bachelor degrees are recognized as eligible for admission.
Given the fact that so many different degrees exist today, we encourage you to contact us before you apply if in doubt whether your degree matches our requirements.
Language requirements
Financial matters
Students holding EU or EEA citizenship are exempt from the tuition requirement.
The tuition for the programme starting in September 2023 is €14,000 for an academic year (2 semesters). For individual students, tuition will remain at the same level throughout the programme. The tuition payment and refund policy can be found here.
Applicants admitted as degree-seeking students will retain the tuition level throughout their programme as when admitted.
Exempt from tuition are applicants holding permanent residence permits to the following countries:
Applicants with status as refugees etc. in these countries may under certain circumstances be exempt from paying tuition. You should contact us, if in doubt.
Please note: As a Danish government-financed institution, we are not able to offer financial assistance. If your programme participation depends on obtaining a scholarship/grant/work-study offered by a school, we encourage you to apply elsewhere. We are not able to answer questions pertaining to the Danish State Educational Grant and Loan Scheme; instead, you should look for information on www.su.dk.

Academic calendar
Please note: Danish holidays follow the calendar of the Lutheran church, with the addition of a few holidays – just as the Danish Christmas is slightly different than in most countries. Each studio will most likely have its own calendar and this may deviate from the public holidays. You can find and construct a calendar of the public holiday online at e.g. www.timeanddate.com or similar websites.
Typically, during week 42 (in Denmark we number our weeks), there is no teaching in the studios, but this may vary according to each studio, just as the weekdays leading up to Maundy Thursday are also typically days without teaching (again there may be differences according to the particular studio).
Application FAQ
Is it possible to send the application by regular mail?
No. We accept only applications sent electronically.
May I send a larger portfolio/more recommendations than described?
No.
I am a Danish national with foreign application credentials. Must I apply as an international student?
Yes. This procedure must be used by all applicants who have been or are currently, studying with the aim of receiving non-Danish educational credentials.
Should the transcript be sent both in the original language and translated?
Yes, we would like to receive both versions.
May I email my recommendations to you instead of attaching them to the application?
You may, but in our experience, many recommendations do not reach us until after the evaluation has been carried out. We cannot stop the process in order to await a single recommendation. Sending recommendations by email is an option you should avoid, as we cannot guarantee that the recommendation will be paired with your application due to the large number of applications we receive.
How many do you accept?
There is no fixed number; however, we have previously accepted approximately 10-15 applicants.
I have not completed my Bachelor’s programme, can I still apply?
Yes, if you are on the final year of your programme and expect to obtain your Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) by semester start (01 September).
May I send my language proficiency documentation by mail through the provider?
Yes. You may probably not find us on the mailing lists of the test providers, but if so, just send it to us by regular mail.
Do you offer financial support?
No
