Studio 1B: Cultural Heritage deals with transformation and conservation-restoration of the valuable architectonic cultural heritage. It is a highly specialized discipline, and thus, it is the method which characterizes Studio 1B. The specific method which is taught at 1B comprises scientific as well as artistic disciplines. The method is structured in six steps of which the first three are scientific and rigorous and the last three are artistic and subjective. These steps are:
- Empirical investigations (Measured survey, building archaeology and archive studies)
- Documentation
- Analysis
- Value assessment
- Formulation of a conservation strategy
- Artistic design process
Furthermore comes three basic disciplines:
- Architectural history
- Historical building technology and materials
- Conservation theory
This is the basis of Studio 1B.
The critical development of the project by the individual student is crucial. We value an intense study environment with a variety of opinions on cultural heritage management and different approaches to the project development work. Accordingly, we find it important that the individual student takes an individual stand while maintaining the basic methodological approach. And finally we demand a strong artistic approach in the project work.
Foreign students are most welcome, however, some texts and lectures might be in Danish.
Kind regards, the faculty
