The panel From 0/1 to Infinity, Architecture beyond the Binary invites Jack Halberstam, Katarina Bonnevier to introduce queer and non-binary perspectives in architecture beyond the black and white facade.
Jack Halberstam’s talk: An Aesthetics of Collapse: Anarchitecture Beyond the Binary considers architectural performances of unbuilding by Gordon Matta-Clark, Alvin Baltrop and Beverly Buchanan, three very different artists from the 1970’s.
Each artist uses the act of unbuilding to challenge the structures, forms, and idioms of ideologies of development, progress and improvement. For different reasons and through different practices, each artist carves new shapes into the built environment while threatening to bring everything to the point of collapse.
Katarina Bonnevier’s talk Triangulations beyond solo shows and binaries, consider queerying feminist spatial practice in which she is emersed, the architecture, art and design collective MYCKET. ‘’MYCKET means ‘much’ in Swedish and that is how we like it; much is more. It affects how we work, what we try to overcome and how our projects look, touch and are shared. My aim is to bring out tactics, situations and matters developed through artistic research on queer feminist architecture. Where we are constantly getting our hands dirty.’’
