Architectural research occasionally requires extended travel and embedment into an extreme environment, where typical expectations towards transit and on-site operations are challenged. The preparation for such field work exposes extraordinary challenges and uncertainties that come face-to-face with normative practices in architectural research.
Exhibited side-by-side with documents and fragments from the field study itself, Remote Research presents an atypical architectural field study that visualizes planning procedures, logistics and safety protocols required to conduct research in a remote location.
Maarmorilik, Greenland hosts the world’s oldest marble deposits, at over two billion years old. The field work is connected to the Research Lab 2 project, Material Imagination, investigating the future of Nordic Marble and its possibilities for an architectural future.
This exhibition shows the preparation that went into a research trip to Greenland made by Jonathan Foote and Robert Trempe.
