The seven pilot projects presented in the book illustrate the wide range of efforts that are necessary to change the way architecture is developing towards a more sustainable direction.
They deal with subjects as diverse as the path water takes through urban areas and the countryside, curved wood for building holistically, and a sheep barn constructed from local materials.
The projects fall into the categories of climate adaptation and biodiversity, rethinking our resources, building technologies, holistic building, and partnerships for change.
To give an example, the school’s researchers are currently investigating how water might find an easier way through our towns and landscapes as rises in sea water levels and extreme weather become more pronounced. They are also experimenting with new materials and digital tools for designing in e.g. stone and wood – and these are just two of many projects.
Reading the book, you are sure to find new inspiration and gain knowledge about a new architecture that is going to leave its mark on posterity. You can also see the book for yourself if you join us for the book launch event at 15.00 on Thursday 2 February. The event takes place in the canteen at Exners Plads 7 in Aarhus.
