KÅRK

Again this year, the Open Architecture Day publication is made by students from Aarhus School of Architecture and is edited and designed by the bachelor students Karoline Haugaard Rasmussen and Sarah Schmidt Martinez. The publication is free and contains interviews with prominent keynotes of the festival as well as projects from the school’s students.

KÅRK is a collaborative magazine between students from Aarhus School of Architecture and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture. KÅRK is an independent unit run by volunteer students with financial support from the two schools and changing sponsors of the industry. This special edition is sponsored by DREYERS FOND.

The publication is printed by Narayana Press and published by Arkitektens Forlag.

In The Archaeology of Knowledge, Michel Foucault states that “the history of thought, of knowledge, of philosophy, of literature seems to be seeking, and discovering, more and more discontinuities.” Likewise, architecture is a spatial practice able to question, to dream and to make projective futures that resist and reframe stable social and disciplinary structures. Studio 2A presents 9 thesis projects that through research and building design, ask a range of timely questions and propose a variety of concrete proposals. While individually authored, these projects have been conceived collectively as a discursive field where attentive considerations, lively dialogues and convivial space sharing have accompanied each specific search and discoveries.

The Charcoal Cabin by Aulets is one of three spatial architectural installations created for the exhibition With Love From Spain, that was recently presented at the Utzon Centre in Aalborg. Eleven Spanish architects and architecture firms presented projects showing remarkable inspiration from the Nordic masters Jørn Utzon and Arne Jacobsen.

The exhibition was curated in collaboration with Aarhus School of Architecture and based on the research project Éscandinavia – Architectural Dialogues between Denmark and Spain.´

An Architecture Of Social Justice – Lived Experience Sessions

Location: The tour starts in the Library

The blind architect Chris Downey will take you on a blind tour around our school and neighborhood. The lived Experience Sessions are a series of tours related to the pre-event of the ´Design for Inclusivity Scientific Panel´ of the UIA World Congress World Congress in Copenhagen, July 2023. The tours will convey lived experiences of inclusion and exclusion inside and around the new architecture school. On these tours, architecture students and the general public are allowed to share their lived experiences with protagonists who are usually not included in the architectural agenda.

The tour is facilitated by Chris Downey and moderated by Ricelli Laplace, Ruth Baumeister, and Magda Mostafa

Our social fabric is diverse and that mandates that those who create our built environment can empathize and imagine diverse perspectives. Tideland Studio

Location: Onsite Gallery

Exhibition opening introduced and made by architects Simon Strøyer and Jonas Swienty Andresen of Tideland Studio. Tideland Studio has created an experiential exhibition about the transformation of the Arctic landscape.The exhibition is the start of an ongoing research, art and climate activist project which seeks to collect and digitally archive threatened landscapes for posterity. The exhibition shows that architecture is not just about creating buildings and landscapes, but that architects can use their tools to create place-based communication, experiences and activism.

The project is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.

The exhibition is the fifth of five exhibitions in Onsite Gallery about the emerging voices and new design studios, which show some of the diverse ways to start a practice. The exhibitions are supported by LINKED and Aarhus School of Architecture.

Hugrún Fjóla Hafsteinsdóttir

With Lea Porsager’s site-specific work Repulsive Enchantment (2021) as a backdrop, Hugrún Fjóla Hafsteinsdóttir offers a meditative séance, a chanting of the Akaal Akaal Akaal,meaning timeless, endless, non-temporal. 

Hugrún Fjóla Hafsteinsdóttir is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist from Iceland. For the past years, she has dedicated herself to creating and sharing her music of Kundlini Yoga mantras, playing at festivals, and leading workshops, travelling the world. In Kundalini Yoga, mantras are known to reverberate through Naad — the universal sound-current — and bring people in touch with their own vibration.
