Studio 2C: Building Culture and Tectonics

A part of Teaching Programme 2

Studio 2C: Building Culture and Tectonics is first and foremost an architectural design studio, with an approach to architecture as built reality.

We believe that any architectural challenge should be approached from a certain level of tectonic understanding and skillfulness, a clear understanding and study of what it means to build and how knowledge about a specific cultural context can work as an engine for architectural clarification and aesthetics.

We are interested in developing a field of study rooted in an understanding of building tradition, technique and tectonics. As teachers, we have an obligation to help future architects obtain these skills and this understanding of architecture.

The central focus of Studio 2C is to work with architecture on a scale where the interaction between form, space, construction and materials has been thought through to a high level, where the interest in building construction and materials will particularly be studied and cultivated through students’ design projects.
