The theme of Drawing of the Year 2018 is Shaping new Realities. The drawing must address this theme. However, the theme can be interpreted freely and the competition welcomes experiments. The theme is not limited to a certain scale or place.
Participants must be students enrolled in or having graduated from a school of architecture in January 2018 or later. Entries from PhD students from a school of architecture are also welcome.
Students who are on leave or doing an internship and who are later to resume their studies may also participate.
One participant may submit ONE drawing. Please note that you cannot submit both a drawing as an individual and as part of a group.
Deadline for submission is 1 November 2018 at 12.00 noon (CET).
Entries received after the deadline will NOT be considered for the competition.
The winners of the competition will be announced Friday 30 November at a ceremony at DOKK1, Hack Kampmanns Plads, 8000 Aarhus C.
We only accept digital submissions.
The drawing itself can be hand-drawn sketches but must be digitally developed; 3D modeled drawings processed and developed in digital graphic programs; 100% digitally created or a mix of the analog and digital media.
You can use and sample different kinds of drawings, photos etc. in an original way and work them into your drawing. However, it is your responsibility to follow international copyright laws. Your drawing must not have been published before and your drawing must be original. The aim is to explore the drawing as a media for creative and artistic development.
Size of drawing: 88 x 88 cm. File format: PDF. Recommended resolution: 300 ppi. Max file size: 100 MB.
The digital drawing must be created using digital technology. It can e.g. be hand-drawn sketches that are scanned and further developed digitally or 3D modeled drawings processed and developed in digital graphic programs. The aim is to explore the digital drawing as a media for creative and artistic development.
You are allowed to use and sample different kinds of drawings, photos etc. in an original way and work them into your drawing. However, it is your responsibility to follow international copyright laws. Your drawing must not have been published before and your drawing must be original.
Drawings must be submitted via the form below. Please make sure, that your submission contains a unique ID. Furthermore, it is important that you name your file with the same ID.
Drawings submitted as physical print or sent via email will NOT be taken into consideration for the competition. It is the participant’s own responsibility to secure that the drawing is uploaded in the right format.
SUBMISSION IS NOW CLOSED
You have to make up your own unique ID containing three numbers and four letters (e.g. 123AAAA).
You must add the ID to the submission form. It is also important that you name your file with your unique ID. The word you choose may not be connected with the entrant.
To ensure the anonymity of the participants, please do not post your actual entry for the competition e.g. on social media in such a way that your identity is revealed.
Drawings may be produced individually or in groups. Just choose the option The drawing is produced: In a group on the submission form and fill in all the names of the participants.
Drawings produced as part of students’ educational programmes are very welcome. This means that drawings which are part of students’ final projects can be submitted. If you apply as a group, all members must be connected to a school of architecture or have graduated January 2018 or later.
By uploading your drawing you give Aarhus School of Architecture permission to use it in exhibitions at the school and on other locations. You also give us permission to post it on the school’s website aarch.dk and in an E-book containing a curated selection of the drawings. You will always be credited for the drawing.
Following the awarding of prizes, Aarhus School of Architecture reserves the right to publish submitted drawings on social media in connection with the names of the participants.
You also give us permission to contact you again.
Aarhus School of Architecture will show a curated exhibition of drawings submitted for the Drawing of the Year 2018 competition. The selected drawings will be exhibited together with the participant’s name, institution, and nationality.
The drawings will be exhibited at DOKK1 from 30 November – 18 December 2018. If you do not have the opportunity to visit Aarhus, please follow us on Facebook and Instagram, where we will post updates from the exhibition.
