When WORKS+WORDS opens its doors in early March, it will be the fourth time the biennale presents contemporary architectural works from around the world in Denmark. The first editions were held in Copenhagen, and this year the biennale unfolds across three locations in Aarhus.
At WORKS+WORDS, visitors can experience works by more than thirty international architectural researchers and practitioners. The biennale takes place at Kunsthal Aarhus, Arkitektskolen Aarhus and Aarhus Rådhus. All three venues are within walking distance of one another, making the movement between them part of the exhibition experience. Together, they create a spatial and architectural journey through Aarhus, opening up diverse encounters between research, architecture, and the city.
“The biennale highlights the artistic dimension of architecture as a space for inquiry, intuition, and cultural resonance. At a time marked by social, environmental, and technological transformations, there is a renewed need to safeguard the artistic sensibility that enables architecture to function as an aesthetic and culturally unifying force,” says Kristine Annabell Torp, Associate Professor at the Royal Danish Academy and member of the curatorial group.
WORKS+WORDS runs from 5 March to 10 April and presents works in a wide range of media and scales. One of the more than 30 works, Fire Followers, consists of drawings for the reconstruction of three Californian towns, developed after major wildfires in 2021. Other contributions explore architecture’s relationship with the body, digital trends, ecological landscapes, and much more.
“All those interested in art and architecture will have the opportunity to experience a selection of current works offering a wide array of perspectives on where architecture comes from, where it stands today, and where it is heading. We look forward to welcoming the many exhibitors and guests from Denmark and abroad to an abundance of artistic expressions and visions,” says Thomas Bo Jensen, Vice-Rector of the Aarhus School of Architecture and also a member of the curatorial group.
