As a form of knowledge production, artistic research combines the making of works with the writing of words. At the Works + Words Biennale 2026, each exhibited work is accompanied by an essay authored by the participating architectural researchers and practitioners.
Rather than functioning as explanations, these essays complement the works in different ways as poetic and critical exemplifications of how making and writing can operate together to provide insights and reflections on architecture.
The essays are made available here as preprints and have not undergone a formal peer-review process.

Shortly after the biennale, a book called WORKS+WORDS – Artistic Research in Architecture will be published. Structured as an archipelago of projects, the book documents and contemplates the three Works and Words Biennales for Artistic Research in Architecture which took place in Copenhagen in 2017, 2019, and 2022 through images, essays, and interviews. It is authored by Peter Bertram and Martin Søberg.
