Birthe Urup (DK) works on the principle that everything can and should be integrated into a whole and the quality of the place, operating in a professional field between the sensory and inexplicable to the logical and practical. A distinctive feature of Birthe’s work is a thorough and strong analysis, a clear approach, and a poetic vision. Her ideas are always clear and simple, based on the unique character of the place, with the goal of creating new landscape stories that combine cultural heritage and environments with contemporary quality, honesty, and robustness.

DETBLÅ is a new design studio founded in 2020 with support from the Danish Arts Foundation, and includes architects Birthe Urup and Karin Munch along with 10 skilled architects. Birthe has developed nuanced skills in the field through previous positions and has gained recognition with awards and nominations, resulting in a series of prominent projects. It is Birthe’s professional acumen, strong sense of responsibility, good design, and aesthetic strength that have anchored the projects in a clear architectural approach, which she unfolds in a simple design language in her projects.

DETBLÅ is part of a demonstration project for how a future architectural policy might look, for the expert group, the Ministry of Culture, and DAC. The final visions will be launched in September 2024. The working title for DETBLÅ is: ‘The Art of Lying Beautifully in the Landscape.
