Join us 26 June at 15.00 when the exhibition Textures of Time by architects Line Broberg Egebo and Sofie Johnsen opens i Onsite Gellery. The exhibition explores questions of cultural preservation through large-scale latex casts of endangered architecture from the historic center of Taranto, Italy.
The exhibition is open until September 3 and will be part of Aarhus Festival’s Gallery Tour.
What is worth preserving?
Through a meticulous 1:1 preservation of three decaying buildings in Taranto Vecchia, the exhibition invites visitors to engage with the fragile beauty of the often overlooked. These surfaces, scarred by pollution, time, and human neglect, become physical imprints of a city’s complex recent history.
With each fragment, Textures of Time captures the unpredictable aesthetics of decay: spontaneous patterns formed when architecture is left to nature’s reclamation. What might at first seem ordinary reveals subtle details and stories upon closer inspection.
The two artists, who both graduated from Aarhus School of Architecture in 2024, developed Textures of Time in extension of their thesis project. Their work has received recognition from both The Danish Arts Foundation and The Anniversary Prize of the Danish National Bank, for its innovative take on preservation that goes beyond human-centered narratives — exploring coexistence of architecture, nature, and alternative futures for forgotten spaces.
The project began during a residency in Taranto Vecchia, where they worked closely with the local community and fellow international artists to document and reinterpret the city’s endangered heritage. The work was first shown as part of the collaborative exhibition Lasting Impressions in Taranto and is now presented at ONSITE Gallery in Aarhus.
